Grace: It's Our Way of Life

As Episcopal Christians we
Worship at home daily and together weekly;
Study the Scriptures, our tradition, and what it means to be a disciple today;
Serve our families, our parish, and our world in the name of Christ.

Everything we do is done with an ethic of Welcome
because we are only here by Grace.

Sermon, Pentecost 18, Proper 20, Year C, 22 September 2013 - The Parable of the Dishonest Steward, the Name, and God's Call

Looking at the parable of the dishonest steward closely through an historical lens, we learn about what it means to be a steward and what a Name means in the world of Jesus. What is your life saying about who your Master is this week?

Jeremiah 8:18-9:1
Psalm 79:1-9
1 Timothy 2:1-7
Luke 16:1-13

The Collect
Grant us, Lord, not to be anxious about earthly things, but to love things heavenly; and even now, while we are placed among things that are passing away, to hold fast to those that shall endure; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.

* NPR story: I took out some of the statistics that I have in my notes for this story because I could not verify the percentages for 2011.  (I have them in a little diary from that day.)   The economists were bemoaning a drop in consumer confidence and the increase in personal savings, and what that would do to the Economy.  A couple of NPR quotes that you can find here show how we talk about the Economy as a demanding free-thinking entity, a god.  Read how people talk about it.
